Lincoln School to Host Summer Ice Cream Social

Students, parents and faculty have a chance to meet before the first day of school.

Lincoln School students who may be excited or even a little anxious about starting school on Sept. 3 will have a chance to meet their teachers and possibly make some new friends when the PTO hosts a summer ice cream social from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Swirl Whirl.

The annual event serves as a fundraiser as well as a chance for parents, many of whom will be entering the Westfield Public Schools for the first time in September, to get acquainted with one another and with the Lincoln School faculty.

Principal Audrey Zavitz told Patch last summer that the first day of kindergarten can be frightening for a child, and if a young student recognizes a face he or she saw at the meet and greet, it might make the day less daunting.

Back-to-School Night at Lincoln School is set for Oct. 3. The AM sessions meet from 7 - 8 p.m.; PM sessions meet from 8:15 - 9:15 p.m.
