Families Enjoy Poolside Fun

Family Fun Night at the Westfield Memorial Pool provided fun activities for all ages.

On Thursday evening, Westfield Memorial Pool members enjoyed Family Fun Night. The weather was sunny and humid, so families took advantage of the expansive pool complex and outside festivities.

The Spinners DJ'ed and facilitated games with the children, such as a hula hoop contest. After the games, the children happily collected their prizes. Other activities included relay races, potato sack races and a tattoo station.

Families took advantage of the pool grounds with children filling the waterslides and diving boards. The main pool and children's section were packed with families seeking to cool off in the mid August humidity. The concession stand was offering a 25-percent discount on snacks for the night.

Traci Kastner, program coordinator for the Westfield Recreation Department, explained that this Family Fun Night was the second of the year and devised to offer something special to pool members. Sparked by the idea from Alyson Giallusi, a coordinator of the pool's program committee, the Recreation Department decided to organize the family nights for members to enjoy wholesome family friendly activities.

Kastner explained that in keeping the event simple, it has been very successful. The lollipop prizes were a big hit, and the DJ was very skilled at engaging the children in games and fun music.
