Westfield Voting Locations: Special Senate Election for Booker, Lonegan

The U.S. Senate seat of the late Frank Lautenberg will be decided Wednesday.

New Jersey voters will decide on Wednesday who will fill the U.S. Senate Seat of Frank Lautenberg, who died on June 17.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Republican Steven Lonegan are the two major party candidates on the ballot for Wednesday’s election. Others running for the senate seat are Robert DePasquale, Eugene Lavergne, Stuart Meissner, Pablo Olivera, Antonio Sabas and Edward Stackhouse Jr.

Lautenberg was the final World War II veteran in the senate. He was 89 when he died. The winner of Wednesday’s election will complete the remaining 15 months of his term.

Governor Chris Christie announced at a press conference in June that a special election would be held in order to fill Lautenberg’s seat, where he received criticism for holding the election just 20 days prior to the Nov. 5 election. Primary and special elections could run the state an estimated $12 million apiece.

“The issues the Senate is facing are too important for the people of New Jersey not to have an elected representative who represents the will of the voters,” Christie said at the conference.

Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
