Two Bronx Teens Arrested For Attempted Carjacking In Westfield

Two Bronx teens have been charged for the attempted carjacking of a Fanwood man giving them a ride to the Westfield Train Station early Wednesday morning.

According to Westfield Police:

Chief David Wayman of the Westfield Police Department announces the arrest of a juvenile, age 15 of the Bronx, New York, for aggravated assault, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, credit card theft, and receiving stolen property.

A second juvenile, age 17 of the Bronx, New York, was also arrested and charged with hindering apprehension.

The arrests took place on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at approximately 1:30 am, when a resident of Fanwood, New Jersey reported that he was the victim of assault and carjacking while at the Westfield Train Station on South Avenue.

Westfield Police Officers responded to the Train Station upon hearing an audible car horn, and found the victim seated in his vehicle, having been sprayed with chemical mace.

The victim reported that he had given a ride to two black males to the Westfield train station from Cumberland Street, Westfield, and that upon arriving at the train station one of the suspects sprayed him in the face with chemical mace, and then attempted to enter the vehicle driver’s side door, at which time the victim began repeatedly honking the vehicle horn.

The suspects then fled on foot. Westfield Police Officers immediately began searching the area, and the suspects were located and arrested in the 500 block of East North Avenue.

Both Juveniles were transferred to Union County Juvenile Detention. Chief Wayman commends the diligence and fast action of the officers of the Westfield Police Department.
