Teen Swallows 10 Folds of Heroin in North Ave. Drug Bust, Police Say

Two 19-year-olds face multiple drug distribution and possession charges.

Two 19-year-old men were charged with multiple narcotics offenses and one swallowed 10 folds of heroin in an attempt to conceal the drugs when officers arrived last week to conduct an investigation in the 400 block of West North Avenue, Westfield Police said.

Azariah Lazar, of Edison, and Antigua Johnson, of Kew Gardens, N.Y., were each arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Westfield Police report.

Lazar was also charged with destruction of evidence after swallowing, what police say was, 10 folds of heroin once officers arrived. While being processed, Lazar was taken to the hospital for abdominal pain, which was directly related to consuming the heroin, according to police. Once released from the hospital, Lazar returned to the Westfield Police station.

Bail was set for Lazar and Johnson at $100,000 each with no cash option.
