Town Book Store

(Westfield, NJ, April 21, 2024) The Town Book Store’s (TBS) new owner, Lisa Schwartz, invites one and all to visit the store on Saturday, April 27 to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day. There will be a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. with members of the Downtown Westfield Corporation and Mayor Brindle, followed by book signings featuring local authors.
“The Town Book Store is a true Westfield treasure, and one of the few remaining independent book stores in the region. Its long-standing success is a testament to the commitment of its owners over the past 90 years,” said Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle. “I know the community joins me in my congratulations to Lisa on assuming ownership of this beloved local business, and in extending best wishes for many more years to come.”
Schwartz and her husband Robert have lived in Westfield for 20 years and raised their two children, Henry and Charlotte, here. She has worked at TBS for the last five years, but always dreamed of owning a bookstore. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to shepherd this beloved local institution into its next century,” said Schwartz. “More than a bookstore, TBS has the potential to become a gathering place for friends and families to exchange ideas and nurture their love of reading.”
Independent bookstores are also known for supporting local authors; five will be on-hand throughout the day to sign their books and talk to patrons. The schedule is as follows:
11:30am-1:30pm
Debra Green Feldman – Mahjong at Mara’s and other titles
Anthony Ausiello – Brooklyn ‘76
Ann Ormsby – The Recovery Room and Living in the Rain
1:30pm-3:30pm
Laura Sassi – Love is Kind and other children’s titles
Matt Myklusch – The Accidental Hero and other young adult titles
TBS has been continuously serving the Westfield community since 1934. Schwartz will be the eighth owner, all but two of whom were women. 
The festivities will also include free refreshments and new Town Book Store merchandise designed by Charlotte Schwartz available for purchase.
Independent Bookstore Day is held the last Saturday in April each year and celebrates the contributions of independent bookstores to their communities across the country.

Town Book Store to Celebrate New Ownership on Independent Bookstore Day

Westfield Service League Thrift Shop

The Westfield Service League (WSL) Thrift and Consignment shops has gifts for your mother, your wife, your grandmother, and your daughter this Mother’s Day. The shops sell a wide selection of women’s tops, bags, scarves, dresses, beachwear, jewelry, and housewares, including platters, wineglasses, bric-a-brac, and table linens.
Starting on April 30th both shops will have a raffle for a beautiful Mother’s Day basket full of small treasures for every woman! Come in from April 30th to May 9th and fill out your raffle form. One for each shop with purchase. 
The winning tickets for the raffles will be drawn on May 9th at Girls’ Night Out when our shops will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be live music compliments of the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, light refreshments and a complimentary piece of jewelry with purchase while supplies last. The shops will also be open and there will be a wide selection of women’s apparel and housewares.
The WSL shop is located at 114 Elmer Street in Westfield and is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information about donations or volunteering, call 908-233-2530 for the Thrift Shop or 908-232-1223 for the Consignment Shop.
