Swimmers dive in to latest dance craze.
Members of the Westfield Y's swim team prove they've got some inspired moves even out of the water. The attached video, submitted by Gavin Conlon, shows the swimmers shakin' their Speedos to the newest dance phenomenon taking over the Internet - the "Harlem Shake." What do you think?

The Westfield Area Y is hosting two Preschool Open Houses on Saturday, January 12th. The first Open House will be held at the Robert & Virginia Bauer Family Branch located at 422 East Broad Street beginning at 10:00 am and ending at Noon for parents with children as young as age 2 ½. Tours of the Preschool classrooms will be given and questions regarding the various Y Preschool programs, curriculum and schedules for the 2012-2013 school year will be answered by certified staff. The second Open House is for Cranford Residents only at the Preschool at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue in Cranford from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm for children ages three and four. Celebrate the season at the Westfield Area Y’s Annual Lunch with Santa at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. Families can come and enjoy lunch together, have fun singing Christmas Carols and can take pictures of their children visiting with Santa as they share holiday wish lists with him. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended and can be done at any Westfield Area Y location. All proceeds benefit the Y Strong Kids Campaign. The following was written by Lynne Applebaum, Associate Director of Health & Wellness/Membership at the Westfield Area Y On the first day of our new exercise program, “Delay the Disease – Exercise to Fight the Symptoms of Parkinson’s,” the four of us on the Westfield Area Y professional exercise staff went into the Kellogg Room with our notes from the training, our years of exercise experience and a ton of fear. How on earth were we going to work with these people? Some of them had visible tremors in their hands, some didn’t show much expression at all, some had difficulty walking, and some came in wheelchairs. Personally, I was petrified! The following was submitted by the Somerset Valley YMCA. Some parents use a family member as a namesake, others choose a celebrity or historical figure. Mark and Sherry Elsasser chose the Y. In honor of where they worked, the Elsassers named their son “Bryan” with a “y,” later commissioning T-shirts emblazoned with the Y logo in place of an ordinary Y on the front. “Bryan grew up and did everything in the Y, including summer camp, youth sports, pre-school,” said Mark, who has worked for the Y for 35 years and is currently the CEO of the Westfield YMCA. For the seventh grade students competing in the annual Health Bee in Westfield, there's more at stake than just bragging rights: the future health of the students may depend on how well they understand the material. The third annual “UnitedHealthcare Health Bee” will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Westfield Area Y with 175 seventh grade students from schools in Westfield, Cranford and Garwood expected to participate. The Health Bee will test their knowledge of health and wellness with three Jeopardy-style rounds of competition in addition to 60-second pop culture quizzes. The students who participate in the Health Bee spend after-school hours from September through mid-March preparing for the challenge. The…
