June's grand opening ceremony will coincide with Tamaques' 50th anniversary celebration.
Tamaques Elementary recently celebrated the ground breaking of its Outdoor Classroom, the first of its kind in Westfield. The grand opening ceremony, to take place in June in conjunction with Tamaques' 50th Anniversary celebration, will represent the culmination of a multi-year collaboration between the faculty, staff, Board of Ed, parent volunteers like Greg Blasi of Palimpsest Architectural Design in Westfield, and construction company Salamone Development. The entire Westfield community will be invited to attend the festivities. Coupled with the expanded Tamaques School Garden, spearheaded by Frank Fuzy, the Outdoor Classroom will provide a unique, multi-sensory learning environment for students.

Tamaques Elementary School celebrates 50th anniversary during annual Variety Show.
Tamaques Elementary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary during the annual Tamaques Variety Show on April 5th and 6th. The theme for the show is 'Tamaques Solid Gold,' in honor of the anniversary. All of the music for the show will be gold hits from the last 50 years, ranging from 'Imagine' by John Lennon to 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepson. With the help of parent volunteers, students learned dance moves for the songs they will perform in the show. Said parent volunteer and co-producer Paula McCauley, "All of the kids have a say in what song they want to do, but the fifth graders get to choreograph their own dance routines.” A highlight for this year's show is the incorporation of Tamaques alumni as part of the 50th anniversary …

New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS), a division of the New York Blood Center (NYBC) is hosting a blood drive this afternoon and evening.
New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS), a division of the New York Blood Center (NYBC) is hosting a blood drive at Tamaques Elementary School from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today. NJBS is facing big challenges this season to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply for hospital patients. According to New York Blood Center's website, patients in regions the center supports need close to 2,000 people a day to roll up their sleeves to give the gift of life. There is simply no substitute for voluntarily donated blood. Without volunteer donors, our community would not have an adequate community blood supply. For more information or to schedule your own blood drive, visit, www.nybloodcenter.org, call 732-220-7184 or email Mforrestal@nybloodcenter.org. All are …
