Police Blotter: Thefts Reported, DWI Arrests Made

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

May 1: A business in the 100 block of Central Avenue reported the theft of approximately $556.45 worth of Wusthof kinves between 8 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The matter is under investigation.  A business in the 200 block of W. South Avenue reported the theft of approximately $16 worth of merchandise between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. The matter is under investigation.  May 3: Kathryn Daleo, 24, of South Plainfield was arrested for driving while intoxicated pursuant to a motor vehicle stop at Willow Grove Road and Rahway Avenue. Daleo was transported to headquarters, processed and released with summons to a sober adult.  May 6: Andrea Block, 42, of Park Place, Springfield, NJ, was arrested at the 600 block of North Avenue on a complaint of shoplifting…

Police Blotter: Residents Report Thefts, Fraud

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

April 23: A business located on the 700 block of North Avenue reports being the victim of a fraud and theft. Victim states that an unknown suspect used a fraudulent check to purchase goods in the amount of $462.34. A resident of the 400 block of W. Broad Street reported being the victim of identity theft. Unknown suspect(s) opened an account under the victim's number and charged $3,483 to a credit card. April 25: A resident from the 200 block of Walnut Street reported being the victim of an act of criminal mischief. The victim states that an unknown suspect(s) damaged a cedar box worth $50.  April 26: An employee of a business located in the 600 block of W. North Avenue reported the theft of $220 cash from their purse. The incident is …

Patch Reader Questions Police Blotter Item

Resident says carelessness should not be categorized as theft.

This letter to the editor pertains to the following Westfield Police Blotter item:  April 18: A Westfield resident reports being the victim of theft. The victim states that she left her iPhone at the Westfield Diner and an unknown suspect stole the phone, valued at $320. I'm sure a lively debate would ensue should I question how a woman that left her cell phone at the Westfield Diner can go to the PD to report a theft.  Maybe she finds solace by ignoring her carelessness and, instead, characterize the finder as a thief. Over the years of reading both Patch and the Leader I have read countless similar reports of incredibly trusting people who filed CMA reports to police as though they mitigate the loss of personal property from UNLOCKED …

Police Blotter: Arrests Made for Drug Possession

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

April 18: A Westfield resident reports being the victim of theft. The victim states that she left her iPhone at the Westfield Diner and an unknown suspect stole the phone, valued at $320. After being stopped for a motor vehicle violation, Pais Claudio, 38, of Roselle Park was arrested for being in possession of drug paraphernalia and under 50 grams of marijuana. He was processed and released. David Gorczyca, 26, of Kenilworth was arrested for possession of CDS marijuana and possesssion of drug paraphernalia pursuant to a motor vehicle stop at E. April 8: A resident of the 200 block of Avon Road reports being the victim of identity theft. The victim states that unknown suspect(s) attempted to gain access to the victim's accounts. As of now, no money has been taken. A resident from the 200 block of Munsee Way states that unknown suspect(s) stole a piece of jewelry from the inside the residence. The victim states the jewelry is worth $115,000. There were no signs of forced entry. April 11: At 6:59 a.m. a theft was reported in the 700 block of Central Avenue. An unknown suspect took approximately $170 in merchandise from a business and fled without paying. The following information is obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

March 31: Bernard Jennings, 56, of Plainfield was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Westfield Municipal Court in the amount of $177. He was unable to post bail and held in cell #2. April 2: Lanice C. Mickey, 36, of Plainfield was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant issued by the Westfield Municipal Court. Mickey was picked up at the Union Police Department, transported to WPD where she was processed and released after posting $500 cash bail. April 3: Robert Cartagena, 35, of Edison was arrested at headquarters for an East Brunswick traffic warrant for $120. Police Blotter: Shoplifting, Burglary, and Fraud Reported

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

March 23: Jerome J. Coleman, 27, of Roselle was arrested during a motor vehicle stop in the area of East South Avenue and Cacciola Place. During further investigation, officers located suspected marijuana in the vehicle Coleman was operating. Coleman was transported to police headquarters, processed and issued summonses for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and maintenance of lamps. He was released with a pending court date at Westfield Municipal Court. March 24: Zachery J. Binko, 24, of Mountainside was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) after the investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the area of West Dudley Avenue and Prospect Street. Police Blotter: Teens Crash Stolen Car, Attempt to Outrun Police

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indication a conviction.

March 17: Jamil T. Simmons, 19, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, both of Newark, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and eluding after a brief motor vehicle purusit that ended in the area of First Street and Marion Avenue. Officers attempted to execute a motor vehicle stop at which time the subjects who were occupying the 2004 Hyundai resisted arrest by increasing their vehicle's speed in an attempt to elude the officers. A brief motor vehicle pursuit ensued and ended when the Hyundai crashed into two parked vehicles in the area of First Avenue and Marion Street. Three subjects fled from the vehicle resulting in a foot chase. Simmons was apprehended shortly after the crash. The 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended …

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

March 9: A Cumberland Street resident reported being the victim of a theft. Unknown suspect(s) stole $800 worth of property from an unsecured garage.  March 10: Michael Dunn, 39, of Garwood was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) as the result of a motor vehicle stop. He was turned over to a responsible adult with multiple summonses and a pending court date. March 11: A resident of the 500 block of North Scotch Plains Avenue reported an act of identity theft, which incurred a loss of more than $26,000.  A resident of the 100 block of Massachusetts Street reported a burglary to a motor vehicle between 7:30 p.m. and 10:42 p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered the unlocked vehicle and removed a pair of blue Ray Ban sunglasses …
