Pedestrian Struck by Van While Crossing North Avenue Illegally

Victim was taken to University Hospital by Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad.

A man who was crossing North Avenue near Prospect Street illegally was struck by a van around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Westfield Police Capt. Scott Rodger. While one lane of traffic stopped to allow the man to cross, he could not be seen by the driver of Toyota van who traveling in the other direction, Rodger explained. The man was conscious and alert when police were on the scene, Rodger said. He was then transported to University Hospital by the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad for observation.   Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

That Dudley/clark intersection surprises me. I have come close to hitting people there. Very dark AND it is the corner the middle school is on. You would think that they would light that up better with all of the kids there   more ›
