Despite Loss, Lots of Love for Devils

Hundreds greet team yesterday following heartbreaking Stanley Cup defeat in LA

They might not have won the Stanley Cup, but the New Jersey Devils still returned home to a hero's welcome yesterday, when they were greeted by several hundred fans who braved a steady rain at Prudential Center in Newark. New Jersey’s only NHL franchise lost the sixth of the seven-game series Monday against the Los Angeles Kings after overcoming a three-game deficit, raising hopes among fans here in the Garden State of a comeback the likes of which had not been seen in generations. But although it was not to be, plenty of Devils faithful were there nonetheless when the team bus arrived from Newark Liberty International Airport around 4:45 p.m. following a long flight home from the West Coast. The bus streamed past a crowd of fans chanting…

Devils Fans Show Their Spirit

Hordes of NJ Devils fans showed their colors at the fifth game at Newark's Prudential Center.

So, Devils fans. Did your team do you proud? The team is headed back to Los Angeles trailing the Stanley Cup Finals 3 games to 2 for an 8 p.m. Monday night Game 6 matchup with the Kings for the ultimate hockey prize —Lord Stanley’s Cup. Patch asked Devils fans to let us know Saturday where they would be so we could take their photos and let them show their team pride. And, you fans did. Prior to Game 5, Patch readers and Devils fans showed up with painted faces, “wearing the Red” and ready to cheer on the team. The Devils are trying to become only the second team in league history to come back from a 3-0 deficit and win the Cup. Only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs have ever accomplished that feat. So, now we’re hoping for a win Monday night …

POLL: Can the Devils Pull Out A Championship?

The pressure is shifting in the Stanley Cup finals — or is it?

Many hockey fans thought the Stanley Cup finals could have been over earlier this week with the Los Angeles Kings winning their fourth game Wednesday, ending the playoffs. Down three games to zero, the Devils came back to win on Wednesday with a score of 3-1, forcing another game between the two NHL teams at Newark's Prudential Center. Then, Saturday night, the Devils rose to the occasion again, besting the Kings 2-1 and sending the series back to Los Angeles. It was the first time the Kings have been defeated on the road during the playoffs and the first time they have lost two in a row post-season. Now, New Jersey fans are rooting for their hometown favorites with a …
