After All Ballots Counted, Obama Wins Westfielders' Votes

County results show the President bested challenger Mitt Romney by more than 500 votes.

After all provisional and mail-in ballots have been counted, President Barack Obama has won the majority of Westfielders' votes in the presidential election held on Nov. 6., according to the Union County Clerk's Office. Total votes amounted to 8,080 for Obama and 7,555 votes for former Masschusetts Governor Mitt Romney. On election night, based on ballots cast at Westfield's polls, it was reported that Romney had won Westfielders' votes by a narrow margin, with 6,543 ballots cast for the Republican candidate and 6,388 for the president. GOP Will Benefit From Down Voter Turnout, NJ Insiders Say

Both parties also approve of governor's level of support for those more affected by Sandy.

Republicans will be mostly likely to benefit from a down voter turnout Tuesday in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, New Jersey political insiders believe. According to a Patch poll of state elected officials and party insiders, 15 of 22 Republican respondents believe voter turnout will be down slightly from where it would have been otherwise. Of 27 Democratic respondents, 26 expect there will be either a slight or sharp decline in turnout.  "The areas likely to remain without power by Tuesday are predominantly smaller, suburban and rural communities that are typically Republican bases," one Republican respondent said. NJ Insiders Split Along Party Lines After Final Debate

Some 89 percent of Democrats gave Obama the debate win, while Republicans declared Romney the winner by the same margin.

New Jersey political insiders gave their candidates the edge on the final presidential debate. However, most believe President Barack Obama will be the consensus winner over Mitt Romney among national media outlets. According to a Patch flash poll sent to elected officials and political party insiders in New Jersey, 17 out of 19 Democrats responding believed Obama was the victor, while 16 out of 18 Republicans declared Romney the winner. “Gov. New Jersey political insiders declared their party’s candidate the winner of the second presidential debate Tuesday night. However, most believe President Barack Obama will be the consensus winner among national media outlets over Mitt Romney. Students say they enjoy town hall-style of debate

As they watched President Obama and Mitt Romney debate Tuesday, Monmouth University students cheered, booed and laughed at the answers and exchanges throughout the night. The crowd of 107 students and professors came out to Monmouth's Wilson Hall Tuesday night to watch the second presidential debate. Most agreed that the second round was a more lively match than the first. Students said they enjoyed the town hall-style debate and that it made for a more interesting night. President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney faced off in the first of three presidential debates Wednesday night. The debate was held at the University of Denver in Colorado. President Obama, 51, vying for his second term, was leading by four percentage points in a national poll over challenger Mitt Romney, 65, before the debate. However, political pundits and speculation on Huffington Post questioned whether the debate could change the standings. The candidates are expected to debate each other two more times - once on Oct. 16 and once on Oct. 22. The topics for those debates will be domestic policy on the 16th and foreign policy on the 22nd.
