Mark Hollaway was liked by all who knew him, friends recalled.
Family, friends, and classmates shared their sorrow, grief and fond memories at a candlelight vigil held Sunday night in honor of Mark Hollaway, 14, who died Wednesday, Jan. 16 from the flu. The Westfield High School freshman was remembered as quiet and a bit shy but with a ready smile and a generous spirit. His godmother, Yolanda Davis, said the support of those who came out to pay tribute to the boy she described as like her own son was a "blessing." The Westfield High School freshman died Wednesday.

Friends will honor the life of Westfield teen Mark Hollaway with a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 at Westfield High School. The WHS freshman died Wednesday, Jan. 16 from a flu-related illness. Friends set up a Facebook page, RIP Mark Hollaway, to pay tribute to the 14 year old. Lanre Badmus, friend of Hollaway's and co-administrator of the page, said the vigil is being organized with the blessing of Hollaway's family and added, "Please, keep the Hollaway family in your prayers." The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has confirmed that the death Westfield resident Mark Hollaway, 14, is flu-related. The Health Department issued the following message Friday afternoon: The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has confirmed that the January 16th passing of a Westfield teen is influenza related. The Town mourns this heartbreaking loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to the teen’s family. While a severe case of the flu can be life-threatening, please be assured that this was an isolated case.
