Bramnick-Sponsored 'Janet's Law' Receives Governor's Approval

Legislation pushed by Warren's Jim and Karen Zilinski to prevent deaths from sudden cardiac arrest becomes law.

Six years after 11-year-old Janet Zilinski succumbed to sudden cardiac arrest during a cheerleading practice in Warren, legislation sponsored by Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick, R-Union, Morris and Somerset, known as “Janet’s Law,” was signed into law on Sept. 21 by Gov. Chris Christie. "We are very happy New Jersey children will be protected from sudden cardiac arrest," Janet's father Jim Zilinski said. Zilinski and Janet's mother, Karen, have pursued passage of the legislation for nearly six years, testifying before statehouse committees and panels. To help support the goal of preventing further deaths by SCA, the Zilinskis founded the Janet Fund, which has provided more than 100 AEDs to schools and municipalities in the state, …

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick, R-Union, Morris and Somerset, issued the following statement tonight on Governor Christie’s historic keynote address at the 2012 Republican National Convention: “For years, New Jersey was a frequent punch line for comedians and late night talk show hosts. “Tonight, Governor Christie took center stage as a national leader representing the Garden State. He made the case to the nation that New Jersey has become a model of reform and leadership that the rest of the nation can follow “New Jerseyans can be proud of their governor tonight. Thank you, Governor Christie, for changing the tide."

Bramnick has garnered a reputation of being a funny guy. His comments above are an extension of his latest comedy routine. New Jersey will not lose its reputation of being the armpit of the United States overnight because of Crispy Creme Christie giving the keynote address last night. Bramnick, Kean, Munoz: Union County Gets $2M for Road Projects

Tired of crumbling roads that shake your alignment? Union County towns get the lion's share of $2.6 million in transportation grants to repair local byways.

Motorists and pedestrians in Union County are going to get a break from crumbling roads, thanks to a $2.6 million Department of Transportation grant that Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr., Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick, and Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz announced today.  "Our municipalities work hard to stretch taxpayer dollars, and it is always helpful when the State works with them in order to ensure that our roads are safe and well maintained," said Kean. The District 21 legislators, all Republicans, released a statement to announce the grant.  "This funding will help us repair important local roads and keep pedestrians safe in our communities," added Bramnick.  "These grants are a major funding source for needed projects …

Judge Ciarrocca Takes the Bench

Former third ward councilman sworn-in to a state judgeship.

During a ceremony that mixed jokes with praise, Mark Ciarrocca donned a black robe and climbed the bench into his future. The former Westfield councilman was sworn-in Tuesday afternoon to a seven-year term as a state Superior Court judge in Union County. The ceremony, held in the Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth, placed Ciarrocca center stage as his fellow judges welcomed him to the bench and others rushed to praise the Republican in a mini-version of “This is Your Life.” “Transforming from a lawyer to a judge brings a lot of anxiety to you, it also bring a lot of anticipation,” Union County Assignment Judge Karen Cassidy said. Cassidy focused much of her remarks on discussing the process to become a judge, including securing the …

GOP Picks LoGrippo Over Barabas to Replace Ciarrocca

Town Council to formally make appointment Tuesday night.

Third Ward Republicans picked Planning Board member Mark LoGrippo over Downtown Westfield Corporation board member Diane Barabas to fill the Town Council seat left vacant by former Councilman Mark Ciarrocca’s confirmation as a state judge. Republicans made the pick – expected by political observers since the two finalists’ names were disclosed last week – during a meeting Sunday night at the Gardens home of Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, the town’s GOP chairman. LoGrippo is scheduled to be formally appointed to the seat by the Town Council during a meeting Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in the Municipal Building. He will also fill Ciarrocca’s spot on the November ballot. Bramnick declined to discuss the specifics of the committee’s internal workings …

It seems to me that the process of having to provide Council with the names of three candidates is archaic. Other than that I don’t see anything wrong being done. The Westfield Republican party has the responsibility, by law, to nominate a replacement for Mark and he or she should be given an up or down vote by the members of Council.   more ›

GOP To Choose Ciarrocca Successor Sunday

Barabas and LoGrippo are under consideration to fill third ward seat.

Westfield's Republican Party is considering members of two important local boards to fill the vacant third ward seat on the Town Council. Patch has learned that Downtown Westfield Corporation board member Diane Barabas and Planning Board member Mark LoGrippo will both be considered Sunday when third ward Republicans meet to decide on a successor to Councilman Mark Ciarrocca, according to a source close to the town Republican leadership. Ciarrocca is stepping down from council to become a state Superior Court judge. It is unclear if any other names will be considered during the meeting.  Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, the town's Republican chairman, confirmed the Sunday meeting is taking place, but declined to comment on the candidates under …

Diane, I sat and watched as you got screwed. If I had the power to change things I would. I guess the only way to voice my opinion without angering our leadership is to do so at the polls where my vote is cast without the eyes of the Party watching. It's a sad day for our Party Diane, it truly is.   more ›
