Imagine A Center for Coping With Loss is seeking adult volunteers for its next Facilitator Training April 5-8, 2013. Volunteers come from all walks of life and need no special background other than a willingness to listen, a heart inclined to serve, and the ability to be with children and adults in pain without trying to fix, solve or give advice. State Farm became a “good neighbor” to families in Union County and surrounding areas by supporting Imagine, Inc. Recently Senator Tom Kean joined State Farm Agent Christine Cosenza at Imagine’s office in Westfield, NJ to present a grant for $1,000. Senator Kean serves on the Leadership Council of the organization and Agent Cosenza looks forward to getting involved with their programs. The center for coping with loss offers free, year-round peer support groups.
Luminaries lit the way to a brighter future as Imagine a Center for Coping with Loss hosted its first "I Remember" event held Thursday, Nov. 15. The evening of hospitality, healing and hope drew a large crowd yet each guest had the opportunity to take a moment to remember a loved one who has passed away while sharing the fellowship of others on the same journey. "Grief is universal," said Connie Palmer, LCSW, clinical and training director at the center which opened in May and offers free, year-round peer support groups for children age 3 and up, and for adults of all ages. Event coincides with National Children's Grief Awareness Day
Imagine a Center for Coping With Loss will host its first "i Remember" evening as a way to remind grieving children, families and other adults that they are not alone in their grief. Through ritual, art, and the sharing of music, memories and readings, people will experience the healing and therapeutic power and support provided by a caring community of individuals, explained Imagine executive director Mary Robinson. At Tuesday evening's meeting of the Westfield Town Council, Mary Robinson, executive director of Imagine, presented plans to host a Night of Remembrance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 15. Imagine offers year-round grief support to children, teens and adults coping with loss due to death. The event will coincide with New Jersey Children's Grief Awareness Day. Robinson said the evening, which is open to everyone in the community, will consist of an art project, a remembrance service and refreshments. Imagine offers free year-round grief support groups for children age 3-18 who have had a parent or sibling die. Concurrent groups run for parents and guardians and for young adults 18-30 from Union County and beyond. Support groups meet every other Monday for an hour and a half.
