Ring in the New Year With a Free Yoga Class

In celebration of the new year and its one-year anniversary Hapi Yogi will offer a day of free yoga classes on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The East Broad Street studio opened its door on Jan. 2. 2011 and owner Amorette Farella said the day of complimentary yoga is a nice way to give back to the community.  Below is a schedule of classes available:   Wed January 02, 2013

Hapi Yogi Instructors Hope to Bring Healing to Sandy Hook Community

Five yoga instructors will offer free services to Newtown, Conn. community on Saturday, Dec. 22.

Instructors from Westfield's Hapi Yogi will travel to Newtown, Conn. Saturday, Dec. 22 in an effort to bring healing to the community in the wake of the deadly school shooting that took place on Friday, Dec. 14. Amorette Farella, owner of the East Broad Street studio, said she and her colleagues are at a loss of words but want to do what they can to support the Sandy Hook Healing Project. "All of us want to do something, so we are doing what we can," she said. "We're offering the things we can provide. Being there and being strong and sensitive and open, allowing friends and family to begin to heal."  Farella explained that she and four others will join what she described as "an overnight grassroots effort" that will include Reiki, yoga …

VIDEO: Four New Businesses Celebrate Ribbon Cuttings

Keller Williams, Yapple Yogurt, JX Jewelry Exchange and Hapi Yogi were welcomed to town by Mayor Andy Skibitsky and members of the Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky, Sherry Cronin, executive director of the Downtown Westfield Corporation, and members of the Westfield Chamber of Commerce welcomed four new businesses to town Saturday morning. Ribbons were cut at Keller Williams, Yapple Yogurt, JX Jewelry Exchange, and Hapi Yogi.  Keller Williams:  Opened at 184 Elm St., the realtor might be new to Westfield but it is the second-largest real estate franchise in North America. "Keller Williams is a new generation of positve, professional and tech-savvy agents," said Amy Tenny, managing broker and team leader. Westfield Resident Opens Hapi Yogi Studio

The studio offers simultaneous yet separate parent and child classes.

Amorette Farella's yoga practice has literally changed her life. The yoga instructor and new business owner left her behind her previous career to open Hapi Yogi, located above Victoria's Secret on East Broad Street, in early January. A teacher pursuing her doctorate, Farella said she knew this was something she had to do after she realized how much more balanced she felt as a result of the ancient practice. "It's a huge departure, though I did teach at the college level so the teaching was something that I was comfortable with already, but movement or physical performance was not my background," she said.  While she has always tried to stay fit, Farella said, she previously never  stuck to one thing. Westfield Merchants Offer Winter Break Activities for Kids

Activities abound for families staying local this February break.

Those staying in town while schools are closed for Presidents' Day weekend will find plenty to keep the kids busy. Local businesses are offering workshops and classes to those enjoying a 'staycation.' Just Bead Yourself features a host of activities for a range of ages. Owner Thea Jackson said space is limited so register as soon as possible to ensure a spot, especially at the popular 'Afternoon Tea With My Doll & Me.' Classes are $39 or three for $75.
