Tuesday, February 12
Dear Editor, I had the honor of meeting Ms. Bennett and four other representatives of NJ Residents for Action where for more than one hour we had what I thought was a cordial and frank discussion on the issues surrounding gun control and gun violence in America. During the meeting I expressed my willingness to consider a number of gun control measures as part of a comprehensive, anti-violence effort this year. I restated my support for a comprehensive study of our laws aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, potentially including closing gun-show loopholes and tightening the background-check process on gun sales as well as examining our current entertainment culture where Hollywood and video game makers …

To the Editor: On Monday, February 4, a delegation of five concerned citizens representing the NJ Residents for Action met with United States Representative Leonard Lance and his chief of staff Todd Mitchell at Mr. Lance's office on South Avenue in Westfield. We expressed to Congressman Lance our desire to see a ban on the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high capacity ammunition clips and a system of universal background checks that closes the private-sale loophole. We asked Congressman Lance to hold a town hall meeting at Westfield High School within the next several weeks in order to allow his constituents the opportunity to express their views on the topic of gun violence and as importantly, to allow his constituents to …

Last year guns killed 48 people in Japan, 8 in Great Britain, 34 in Switzerland, 21 in Sweden and over 11,000 in the United States. We spend billions on security threats abroad, but do little to improve the security from assault weapons and handguns that have killed over 30,000 people in 2012. When is enough, enough? The NRA will not be providing a pamphlet to assist our schools how to talk to children after this bloodbath. The right to bear arms is not more important than a child's right to grow up. I urge you sir, as you claim to be a moderate, to represent us and be a true leader and work with the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence and make changes. Sensible change in our nations guns laws are long overdue. America is better than this…

Students from UC Tech addressed Congressman Lance with questions and presentations.
Students of Union County Vocational-Technical Schools(UC Tech) greeted Congressman Leonard Lance of New Jersey's 7th district, with questions from a government class, a prepared presentation from a health sciences class and a short ballet routine on Friday morning. "What a town hall meeting, huh?" Lance said when leaving the room of an AP Government Class from the Magnet High School, who directed many well formulated questions to the Congressman. Some of the questions included Lance's view on Obamacare, which he noted he does not like to call Obamacare, but rather the Healthcare Reform. Lance stated that the country does need a healthcare reform but he does not agree with some aspects of Obamacare. However, he did agree with other part …

As co-signers of the legislative amicus brief to oppose ObamaCare we want to thank Congressman Leonard Lance for his tireless efforts in fighting this huge expansion of government power. The threat to personal freedom that ObamaCare imposes by requiring citizens to purchase a product cannot be underestimated. Once it enshrined in law and precedent, government will be able to – and it will – require us to purchase any number of products or services because some bureaucrat determines that it is in our “best interest” to do so. We believe that we, as free people, best determine what is in our own interest. We stand with Congressman Lance and Senator Joe Kyrillos, the prime legislator to sign the amicus brief, in support of liberty and in …

The lawmaker visited the Cranford Post Office hours before the April 17 income tax filing deadline to promote tax reform.
Calling our tax system "too complex," Congressman Leonard Lance, R-7, and local officials visited the Cranford Post Office the day before Tax Day to oppose new taxes proposed by President Barack Obama and to urge tax reform. Standing on Miln Street in downtown Cranford on an unseasonably warm day, Lance greeted residents as they entered the post office, many of them carrying envelopes addressed to the IRS. With fewer than 24 hours to go before the official April 17 filing deadline for tax returns, the congressman critized Obama's proposed budget, which calls for "new taxes on earnings, dividends and savings for many New Jersey family households and small businesses. Lance said the president's plan includes the "Buffet Rule," which the …
