Anytime a high school football player works his way back from an injury, it can be tough. But for Westfield's Patrick Gray, he had to endure the perils of injury in his senior season. Gray sustained a knee injury to his left leg during the Blue Devils' early season game against Watchung Hills Regional. Although he only missed a couple of weeks, at the time of the injury, Gray wasn't sure how long he would be out for. "My first thoughts were it was a regular little injury," Gray said. "But after getting injured, I stayed in for the next play and I couldn't bend my knee. Three weeks ago, I woke up from a nap after school and rolled off the couch toward my laptop to check my email. It was the day before I was supposed to hear, but I had been checking my email all day long just in case I was misinformed about the date of my notification. When I saw an email with the subject "Northwestern application status," my heart rate skyrocketed.
