Christopher Academy Students Learn About Horticulture

Students extend Earth Day celebration.

The following is a press release from Christopher Academy: Students and faculty at Christopher Academy, the Montessori School, extended their celebration of Earth Day last week with special classroom programs at both the Westfield and Scotch Plains campuses. During the classroom presentations all the Christopher Academy students received a visit from Mike from Let’s Bloom Together. The children were introduced to the horticultural concepts of nurture and nature such as the basics of planting annuals, as well as the needs of vegetation for sun, soil and water; and every child had the experience of planting flowers at their campus resulting in an impressive beautification project. Christopher Academy, New Jersey’s oldest Montessori school is announcing its new extended care program for the school year 2013/14. Introducing Christopher Academy’s Summer Camp 2013

The summer program in Westfield offers a small-group half-day program, introducing the beginning Montessori materials for the youngest students.

Christopher Academy, New Jersey’s oldest Montessori school is announcing its 2013 summer camp program serving ages 2 ½ through 7. Christopher Academy was founded 50 years ago by a group of Westfield residents who wanted Montessori education for their children. Today the school comprises two campuses, located in Scotch Plains and Westfield, both introducing a 6-week camp program starting June 24. The summer program in Westfield offers a small-group half-day program, introducing the beginning Montessori materials for the youngest students. Montessori Education Week is an annual event designed to promote increased awareness and respect for all children and the school is joining Montessori schools across the U.S. and around the world. Christopher Academy Celebrated its 50th Year Feb. 10

Upcoming admissions open house Feb. 21, 9:30 a.m., at 510 Hillcrest Avenue in Westfield.

It was a wonderful day of celebration at Christopher Academy, the Montessori school with campuses located in Westfield and Scotch Plains. Many former and current students, parents and faculty were in attendance Sunday. Congressman Leonard Lance also made an appearance and presented the school with a flag, which was flown over our nation’s capitol. Christopher Academy was founded in February of 1963 by four families, who wanted Montessori education for their children, and the school was truly honored to have Thomas Thomson, one of the founders of the school, in attendance for the 50th anniversary celebration. Christopher Academy Helps Give Others a Head Start

School collected books and included a letter or drawing for K.I.D.S.

The following is a press release:  Students at the Christopher Academy Montessori School campuses in Westfield and Scotch Plains were busy at work with their community project this past week. The school community has been busy collecting books for K.I.D.S (Kids in Distressed Situations) and the new book collection will go to a new Head Start program in New York. Christopher Academy Celebrates Its 50th Year

The school will host an Open House on February 10, 2013 from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at the Westfield campus

In February of 1963 Christopher Academy opened its doors, the first Montessori school in the state of New Jersey and among the first in America. The school was started by four families, including three from Westfield, who wanted Montessori education for their eight children. Today the schools boasts an enrollment of more than 150 children from the ages of 2- 8 years at two campuses in Westfield and Scotch Plains. To help celebrate its 50th anniversary, the school will host an Open House on February 10, 2013 from 2- 4:30 p.m. at our Westfield campus, 510 Hillcrest Avenue. Christopher Academy Celebrates its 50th School Year

The school community has planned a number of events in honor of the anniversary.

Families, children and faculty celebrated on September 5th to open the 50th school year of Christopher Academy, a Montessori school serving children from 2 1/2 years old through first grade. Over the last 50 years, Christopher Academy has served thousands of families and children in the Montessori Method between its two campuses in Westfield and Scotch Plains. Christopher Academy’s anniversary also secures it as the oldest Montessori school in the state of New Jersey. The Montessori Method offers an exceptional learning environment, tailored to the individual child, driven by the community. 'Peaceful Children Peaceful Homes' Promotes Success, Minimizes Conflict

Dr. Catherine McTamaney, Curriculum Director for Christopher Academy, will speak at the Westfield campus at 7 p.m. this evening and again on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.

From time to time parents of young children have trouble striking a balance between what they expect a child to do and what that child is actually capable of accomplishing on his or her own. Often, when there's a disconnect between the two conflict ensues and peace goes out the window.
