Born in Ouyahoga, OH, she lived in Westfield and Manahawkin before she moved to Pine Beach two decades ago.  Susan Carovillano, 69, a longtime Westfield, N.J., resident died Saturday, Feb. 16 at Overlook Medical Center.

Hale remembered as "selfless volunteer."

The following was updated at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to include Lee Hale's obituary: Lee Hale, 88, of Westfield died Saturday, Jan. 26. The following message was posted on the Downtown Westfield Corporation's site: "We mourn the loss of Lee M. Hale, dedicated Board of Director and Treasurer of Downtown Westfield Corporation. Lee was a tremendously selfless volunteer to Downtown and the Town of Westfield. He was responsible for Westfield receiving the Great American Main Street Award and also received the Main Street Hero award for Main Street New Jersey. Westfield Teen Who Died From the Flu Honored at Sunday Vigil (VIDEO)

Mark Hollaway was liked by all who knew him, friends recalled.

Family, friends, and classmates shared their sorrow, grief and fond memories at a candlelight vigil held Sunday night in honor of Mark Hollaway, 14, who died Wednesday, Jan. 16 from the flu. The Westfield High School freshman was remembered as quiet and a bit shy but with a ready smile and a generous spirit. His godmother, Yolanda Davis, said the support of those who came out to pay tribute to the boy she described as like her own son was a "blessing." Lanre Badmus, who organized the vigil as well as a Facebook page RIP Mark Hollaway as a tribute to the friend he was still just getting to know, described Hollaway as "one of those rare kids who made a good impression on everyone."  "He was his mother's only child," Badmus said through tears…

Westfielders to Honor Mark Hollaway With Vigil Sunday

The Westfield High School freshman died Wednesday.

This story was updated at 10:56 a.m. Saturday to include additional comments made by Lanre Badmus. Friends will honor the life of Westfield teen Mark Hollaway with a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 at Westfield High School. The WHS freshman died Wednesday, Jan. 16 from a flu-related illness. Friends set up a Facebook page, RIP Mark Hollaway, to pay tribute to the 14 year old. Lanre Badmus, friend of Hollaway's and co-administrator of the page, said the vigil is being organized with the blessing of Hollaway's family and added, "Please, keep the Hollaway family in your prayers."  As a tribute to Hollaway, who loved basketball, players at Friday night's Westfield vs. Scotch Plains Fanwood game wore Mark's name on their sneakers. …

Friends Remember Westfield Teen, Possible Flu Victim, on Facebook

Friends of Mark Hollaway have created a page in his memory.

Friends of Westfield teen Mark Hollaway, 14, who died Wednesday of a suspected case of the flu, have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to a life that ended far too soon. In messaged posted on the RIP Mark Hollaway page, friends urge the community to always remember the Westfield High School freshman. "You'll never be forgotten. We know you're in a better place, but selfishly, we wish you were all here with us. We love you Mark." WPD and Rescue Squad Thanked for 'Quick' Response to Runner's Collapse

Funeral arrangements made for 76-year-old runner Patrick Brady of Woolwich.

The Cranford-based Central Jersey Road Runners Club thanked the Westfield Police Department and Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad for their "quick response" in coming to the aid of Patrick Brady, 76, of Woolwich, who collapsed and died at the annual New Year's Day Hangover 5K held in Tamaques Park. "We would like to thank the members of the Westfield Police Department who were at the race site for the entire event and the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad for their quick response to this most tragic situation," the club posted on its website. Local And State Officials Issue Statements On Death Of Former UC Assemblywoman

Summit resident Betty Cox, who served in the NJ Assembly in the 1970s and represented Union County, has died.

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick, R-Union, Morris and Somerset, issued a joint statement today regarding the death of former Assemblywoman Elizabeth "Betty" Cox, 85. The former legislator represented Union County: “Although Betty’s tenure as a legislator was brief, she served the people of New Jersey and her constituents in Union County with distinction and honor. Her service to our state and, in particular to Union County, is appreciated and will not be forgotten. County officials announced the death of former Union County Freeholder Chester Holmes.

Former Union County Freeholder Chester Holmes, 81, has passed away, county officials announced early this afternoon. Holmes, a popular Rahway resident, served four terms as a member of the freeholder board. He was first elected to the board in 1997 and retired at the end of 2009 to devote more time to his private security business, Holmes Security and Investigations Inc. “Chester was a gentleman and friend to all," said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella, who, along with Freeholder Deborah Scanlon, was elected to the freeholder board along with Holmes in 1997. WHS Students Plan Candlelight Vigil to Honor Classmate

Allison Harth, 17, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26 following a long illness.

It has been a very sad week at Westfield High School acknowledged Principal Peter Renwick, as friends and classmates learned of the passing of senior Allison Harth. Harth, 17, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26 following a long illness.   "She was a wonderful young lady and beloved by many of her peers and staff," Renwick said. "Allie will be missed, but certainly not forgotten." Friends of Harth have planned a candlelight vigil for 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 to honor her memory. Renwick, who assisted the students in organizing the tribute, said the vigil will take place in front of WHS.  "Throughout the week, counselors have been available to any student needing to grieve," he added. According to the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home website, services for Vera Pecoraro, the 73-year-old woman found slain in her Rolling Hill Way home on Saturday, will be as follows: Elvira "Vera" J. Pecoraro, 74, of Clark, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral from the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, on Wednesday, July 11 at 8:45 am, thence to St. Agnes RC Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:45 am.
