WHS 9th Graders Win "Students Change Hunger" award

Westfield High School 9th Graders (l-r) Jack Liebling, Mark Kostyack, and Cole Feltman received the “Students Change Hunger” Award from the Community Food Bank of New Jersey for their combined efforts in contributing 1,068 pounds of food from September – November 2013.  Presenting the award is Kathy Rosenthal, Food Sourcing Coordinator, joined by Westfield High School Assistant Principal James DeSarno. Westfield topped nine other schools in Division Six (1501+ students) who were considered for the award, including state colleges and universities.  Cole Feltman, who has been volunteering at the Food Bank over the last two summers, encouraged his two friends to join him.  “We made announcements in school and had food put in a bin there. At a local frisbee tournament we got lots of food. We got food collected from the Westfield High School football game, and finally we put bags outside of houses to fill and to be picked up later,” explained Cole.  The most important part of the effort, which all three boys agreed upon:  “We raised food to help hungry people throughout New Jersey.”
