Accepting the certificates in person are (l-r) Kristin Hauge, Mark Gillespie and Jill Rosenfeld. Missing from photo are Alexander Beals, Rachel Holtzman, Alexandra Mossawir, and Yixue “Lily” Wang . According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the nationwide pool of finalists represents one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and subsequent high scores earned on SAT tests. In addition, the finalists must have a record of consistently very high academic performance in all of grades 9 through 12 and in any college course work taken.
