Seminar To Address Gifted Resources and Opportunities
Wednesday, April 2 At Edison Intermediate School
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Families with children in grades K-12 are invited to attend “Determining If A Child Needs Gifted Resources and Finding the Right Fit," a free seminar and resource fair to be held Wednesday, April 2 from 7 – 9pm at Edison Intermediate School located at 800 Rahway Avenue in Westfield, NJ.
Keynote speaker Dr. Lenore Cortina, Faculty Director of the Rutgers Gifted Certificate Program, will lead off the evening in the Edison auditorium at 7 pm. Her presentation will cover signs and levels of giftedness, as well as a discussion of how gifted resources differ from other resources. She will be followed by a quick overview from representatives of each of the evening’s exhibitors, which include Johns Hopkins CTY, Montclair State University's Gifted & Talented Program / Hi-Jump at MSU, HEROES Academy for the Gifted and Rutgers Pre-College program.

Following the lecture, the exhibitors will be set up fair-style in the Edison cafeteria to provide additional information and specific program materials to interested attendees.

The program, which is sponsored by the Westfield Gifted Ed PTC, is open to parents and teachers alike. Students are also welcome to attend. Participation in the district’s Gifted Education Program is not a prerequisite for the seminar or for the programs exhibited.
“Our exhibitors represent a variety of programs designed for different ages and interests. Each program has different qualification criteria and objectives,” says Gifted Ed PTC Co-Chair Amisha Mehta. “Our objective is to provide a wide range of information and enrichment opportunities to the community with this seminar.”
The mission of the Gifted Ed PTC is to promote and support the intellectual curiosity of all students in the Westfield school district. The committee also provides support to the students and families that are admitted to and participate in Westfield’s Gifted Education Program.
