Shiva Kiani to star in "Proof" at Westfield Community Players

(Westfield, NJ – Feb. 21, 2013 ) Shiva Kiani of Newark, NJ will be starring in Westfield Community Players' (WCP) production of David Auburn's 2001 Pulitzer Prize and 2001 Drama Critic's Award winning play, Proof.Show dates are March 2, 9, 16, 22 & 23 at 8:00pm; a matinee performance will be on Sunday, March 10 at 3pm.

Miss Kiani will be making her WCP debut with the performance as Catherine, who on the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday is a troubled young woman, who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness-or genius-will she inherit?

Miss Kiani has previously performed for The Strollers in Maplewood, NJ in such productions as Bottom's Dream as Puck, In Your Dreams Gala as Soloist, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in ensemble role.. She also appeared in The Crucible as Abigail Williams for interACT of Maplewood, NJ. Before relocating to New Jersey from Arizona, Shiva performed for Theater Works in Sly Fox. She was also in such notable plays as Quake,Much Ado About Nothing, 42nd Street, Christmas in the Big Apple, Night of the Iguana and Pippi Longstocking, all in Tucson, Arizona. Miss Kiani was also in two film productions,Gossip Girl and Untitled Christmas Tree Project.

Proof is being directed by Steve Lemenille, of Clark, NJ and produced by Sally Brown of Westfield, NJ. Mr. Lemenille has previously directed “Dial 'M' for Murder”, “A View from the Bridge” and “Squabbles” for Westfield Community Players.
