WNC Rummage Sale Benefits Summer Programs

Westfield Neighborhood Council Sale Photos

The Westfield Neighborhood Council took a step towards helping fund its growing summer camp program Saturday with the annual spring rummage sale.

The WNC's Cacciola Place headquarters was the scene of the organization's annual spring rummage sale to benefit the summer camp program. Tables of donated items were spread out in the WNC's multi-purpose room for buyers from around Westfield who came buy looking for new items to decorate their homes.

WNC board member Mary Withers said the group will use many of the proceeds towards the annual summer camp, which came back last year after a several year absence. The summer camp, which serves many children in the Cacciola neighborhood, includes recreational and educational programs for the campers. Withers said the WNC plans to inclure more field trips during the summer camp this year.

The WNC has been experiencing financial difficulty since the United Fund cut funding to the group several years ago. Since then, the WNC has sponsored a series of annual fundraisers to generate revenue. These include the spring and fall street fairs and the rummage sales. Withers said the WNC this year will expand to three street fairs for extra revenue. The group has received a granted from the Westfield Foundation.

On May 2, the WNC will sponsor an exotic car show at the intersection of North Avenue and Central Avenue. The event will serve as one of the WNC's bigger fundraiser for the year.
