Westfielder to Run NYC Marathon as Part of 'Racing For Veterans' Team

The Westfield Running Co. is supporting runner Andy Fromm by donating 10 percent of sales Friday through Sunday to Racing For Veterans.

Westfield resident Andy Fromm wants to give back to the men and women who have been wounded while serving the United States in the armed forces.

On Nov. 3, the avid runner will participate in the New York City Marathon - his first - with team R4V (Racing for Veterans).

"I want to do something for the men and women who have made such incredible sacrifices so that I may live free - and because I want to do everything to assist in their rehabilitation and reintegration," Fromm explained. "Since October 2001, over two million U.S. troops have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. The men and women serving in these wars are returning to their loved ones forever changed."

Supporting Fromm in his endeavor is the Westfield Running Company. The Quimby Street store will donate 10 percent of sales made Friday through Sunday to R4V.

"It's a great time to replace those running shoes," Fromm said. "Please consider shopping as it will help wounded veterans."

Fromm, who graduated from Westfield High School in June, is no stranger to helping others. Earlier this year, he and classmate Danny LaCorte started a bicycle and athletic equipment drive they called 'Play it Forward, it’s a Shore Thing,' for children at the Jersey Shore impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The pair also received a $1,000 Disney Grant to supplement their collection.
