Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad Reports Only Minor Injuries at Pizza Race

Injuries included heat exhaustion, knee injury, ankle injury, abrasions and blisters.

The had three crews on the scene at Wednesday's , according to Jonathan Delano, captain of the squad.

This consisted of two squad ambulances with full crews stationed at the finish line area and at the halfway point of the race, Delano explained.

"The squad also had a crew who manned the Union County ASAP vehicle, a high-tech golf cart type vehicle, capable of transporting a patient, that provided roaming EMS coverage of the race," Delano said. "Squad EMT members on duty at the race were Jonathan Delano, Lynn Feldman, Dan Sullivan, Reid Edles, Mike Walko, Dan Klibaner and Kim Adams."

Assisting the squad on EMS race operations was a full crew and ambulance from the Clark Volunteer First Aid Squad. The Clark ambulance was staffed by Clark squad captain Mike Hajkowski and member Gerald Pobuta.

"During and after the race EMS treated six patients, all with minor injuries," Delano said. "These injuries included heat exhaustion, knee injury, ankle injury, abrasions from a fall and foot blisters. (The) Squad also handed out many ice packs and band-aids. No patients were transported (to the hospital.)

The squad is always looking for additional help. To learn more about becoming a volunteer, stop by the squad building, ask questions of any member there and pick up a riding member (EMT) (PDF 140K) or Dispatcher (PDF 115K) application. There is always someone in the building.

The all-volunteer organization is funded entirely through tax deductible donations.
