Westfield Rescue Squad Receives $200 Donation from UNICO

The squad's funds are still 25 percent below what it needs.

"Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad Receives UNICO Donation as Squad's 2013 Fund Drive is Below Squad Needs"

The following information was provided by the Westfield Rescue Squad.

The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad received a $200 donation from the Westfield chapter of UNICO, the Italian American Service Organization, on Oct. 25.

The all-volunteer rescue squad which provides emergency medical services at no charge to the town of Westfield is asking for additional support from the community.

According to fund drive chairwoman Lynn Feldman, the 2013 fund drive has only met 75% of the squad's needed funds.

According to Jonathan Delano, squad house chairman, the squad finds itself looking for increased financial support from the community as the costs involved in running a 24-7 EMS operation are increasing. This year the squad, in its 63rd year of operation, had to purchase a new ambulance. And next year the squad is looking at major expenses related to the upkeep of the squad's building. The building upkeep expenses are to include an in-ground backup building generator and exterior painting. Both of which will add significantly to the squad's annual budget.

The rescue squad thanks Westfield UNICO for their generous donation and hope that others take notice and support the squad so it may continue its operations.
