Press Release: Contact We Care Honored for Human Rights Contributions

County human rights panel announces award winners.

The ninth annual Unity Achievement Award presentation by the Union County Human Relations Commission recently honored citizens for contributions that enhance the spirit and quality of life for individuals, families and their extended communities.

Honored this year were Joseph Bonacorso, Flor Gonzales, Elisa Sananman, Jordan Siegel, Sandra Cureton, Rosa Floyd, Annie R. Lucas, Father Donald Hummel and groups Westminster Comforters, CONTACT We Care, and Restore Ministries

The awards presentation was held on April 26, 2010 at the AGL Resources/Elizabethtown Gas Company facility on Morris Avenue in Union Township.

"The Union County Human Relations Commission is all about helping people understand each other and get along better," said Charlie Newman, director of the Union County Office for the Disabled, who co-chairs the Commission. "We encourage celebrating our diversity, and respecting everyone's human rights."

The awards were created to recognize the activities and efforts of culturally diverse individuals and organizations that go above and beyond to improve human relations. Charlie Newman, who is ending his two-year term as a co-chair of the commission was also recognized for his contributions during the ceremony.
