Post Office Makes Special Delivery to Holy Trinity

Food drive restocks pantry.

The Westfield post office made a special delivery to Holy Trinity on Saturday, food for the food bank.

Following the National Association of Letter Carriers' annual food drive over the last week, postal trucks descended at the First Street school, home to the parishes food bank, to drop off mail crates filled with nonperishable items, including pasta, soups, rice and cereals. The food was collected at doorsteps townwide and in Mountainside over the last week, in response to a postcard campaign from the post office.

Staffed with an army of volunteers who sprung into action when a mail truck descended on the school, the near empty food pantry quickly filled up, almost bursting at the seams by the end of the afternoon. District postal officials were on hand for the food delivery and to assist Holy Trinity with the sorting process.

The Holy Trinity food pantry is the main food pantry in Westfield. Serving residents of Westfield and neighboring communities, the pantry is stocked year round with food items. Applicants for food do not need to be parishioners at Holy Trinity to use the pantry.

Holy Trinity staff work with local social services agencies to identify those in need of food from the pantry. The church had a close working relationship with the now closed town human services department before the agency was merged with the county human services department earlier this year.
