Photo Gallery: WNC Brings Exotic Cars to Westfield

Car shows serves as fundraiser for non-profit group.

Exotic cars returned to Westfield Sunday afternoon during the Westfield Neighborhood Council's first annual car show.

Packing the parking lot at the intersection of North Avenue and Central Avenue, exotic cars from throughout New Jersey were on display for residents to enjoy, observe and learn about during the course of the sunny afternoon. Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches, Corvettes and other cars were among those on display for the event.

Staged by the WNC as part of a new fundraising and public awareness campaign, the event brought in residents from all parts of Westfield and surrounding communities to enjoy the cars and the contest on best exotic car. Entertainment and food were hand for event goers to enjoy while checking out the cars.

The car show comes after a series of debates over whether car shows should be held in downtown Westfield. Last year, the Town Council debated the merits of a proposed Downtown Westfield Corporation new car show in the South Avenue train station parking lot, a plan Councilwoman Vicki Kimmins described as "tacky." The Council approved the DWC event over Kimmins' objections, but saw the DWC delay the event to 2010 due to scheduling difficulties. Kimmins, who represents the Cacciola neighborhood served by the WNC, endorsed the exotic car show when it came before the Council earlier this year.

The DWC was to have held the new car show this spring, but delayed the plan due to the WNC car show.

The WNC fundraising and event program will include three street fairs during the spring, summer and fall, along with the annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner at their Cacciola Place headquarters in November. The WNC is planning a summer camp this summer along with an expanded after school program in the fall.
