'Personal Responsibility' the Theme of Westfield's 23rd Annual MLK Day Service

The event is being held at Temple Emanu-El.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Westfield invites all to attend the 23rd annual MLK, Jr. Interfaith Service this Monday.

The activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a march from the MLK Jr. Monument (at the traffic circle) to Temple Emanu-El, located at 756 E. Broad Street. The temple is hosting this year's service at approximately 1 p.m.

This year's speaker will be Rabbi Emeritus Charles A. Kroloff.  The service will include various speakers and readings from the Bible, the singing of hymns and other musical selections by the Interfaith Choir and congregation, and the presentation of awards and readings of essay and poetry winners from Westfield elementary schools.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association began in 1988 and held the first Interfaith Service that year at Bethel Baptist Church. Since then, the site of the service has rotated amongst area churches. This is the fourth time Temple Emau-El has hosted the event.

The commemoration has incorporated a different theme every year since 1993. This year's theme is "Personal Responsibility." Past themes have included "Breaking the Cycle of Violence," "Fear and How To Conquer It," "The Power of Forgiveness," and "Peace on Earth."
