Letter to the Editor: Rotary Club Solicits Donations for Haiti

Service group looks to assist earthquake victims.

Editor's Note: The Rotary Club of Westfield has announced a fundraising drive for the victims of last week's earthquake in Haiti. The Rotary Club, part of Rotary International is a town based service club working on a variety of chartible projects, including those internationally.

To the Editor,

We are all aware of the on-going tragedy of the earthquake in Haiti.  The Rotary Club of Westfield is making an immediate donation to assist the rescue, cleanup and rebuilding of lives that were affected in Haiti.  The two Rotary based organizations that we plan to support are Pure Water for the World and ShelterBox.

ShelterBox is already on the ground in Haiti distributing the first Shelter Boxes that include a 10 person tent, water filters, food implements, first aid kits, etc.  Pure Water for the World was already active in Haiti. We are in direct contact with the director and putting together supplies to send to Haiti.  There are 14 Rotary Clubs in Haiti involved with implementing this effort.

We hope the contribution we are sending is just the down payment on the support we plan to send in the future.  We would appreciate your help also to support Rotary's efforts in Haiti.  Please make your check payable to: Westfield Rotary Foundation and indicate "Haiti" on the check.
