Kimmins Remembers Former Mayor Boothe's Dedication

Councilwoman praises former mayor's support for community activities.

Second Ward Councilwoman Vicki Kimmins holds a seat that was once held by former Mayor Garland "Bud" Boothe, who passed away last week at the age of 76. Kimmins shares some of her memories of the former mayor along with a photo of Boothe and his wife, Gaile, participating in the Washington School alumni show.

"I have known the Boothe family since 1970.  Bud was the consummate volunteer, demonstrated through his dedication to Grant and Washington School Shows, Habitat for Humanity, Westfield Historic Society and his term as mayor.  Most recently, I had the honor of sharing tables at Westfield Historic Society first Wednesday luncheons and touring various museums with him and Gaile through our connection to the College Women's Club of Westfield.  His knowledge of Westfield history and art was so amazing that I had asked him numerous times to write his memories for future generations.  I have received many e-mails from him during my years as a Councilwoman....I have kept them all.  His knowledge, advice and support was like that of a father.  He will be missed."
