Keller Williams Realty associates may be taking the day off on Thursday, May 10, but it will hardly be a day of rest.
Nearly all 35 agents and staff of the Keller Williams Realty Premier Properties of Westfield have chosen to “Give Where They Live” as part of RED Day, one of the biggest events in the real estate industry.
Short for “Renew, Energize and Donate,” RED Day was created to unite Keller Williams Realty offices and associates in an international day of service.
Realtors and other staff members will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items outside of and Shop-Rite on North Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and all day at the 188 Elm Street real estate office.
As part of the RED Day effort, has chosen to spend the day collecting food in conjunction with , to feed hungry children. In the US with roughly 16 million children, the level of childhood hunger in America has reached crisis proportions. In NJ alone, nearly 13 percent of households suffer from hunger each day.
"We reached out and found out that Holy Trinity Church is in need of supplies," explained Lenore Kiss, Keller Williams market center administrator. "We will have people working in shifts outside of the stores and we will also have runners collecting the food and delivering it to the church."
"This event is an entrenched part of Keller Williams Realty’s culture and displays the extraordinary effect a company can have when individuals come together to work as a team for the greater good of everyone,” said team leader, Amy Tenny. "Last year, we planted flowers at Trader Joe’s to help Westfield in their effort to reclaim the winner of the National Contest, 'America in Bloom.' The year before, 2010, planted the Rose Garden at the North Ave Westfield Train Station entrance.
"We can‘t tell you what an impact it made on each of us personally. It felt so great to give back to the community we know and love.”
During RED Day 2011, over 40,000 Keller Williams associates participated in activities ranging from food and blood drives to cleaning up trash in public parks, doing yard work for neighbors in need or revamping gardens, totaling more than 190,0000 hours of service making RED Day one of the biggest events in the real estate industry.
