Soccer Nation Finds Pride at Pegasus Sporting Goods

In a summer dominated by athletics, Pegasus Sporting Goods is ready to prepare fans of all ages with apparel and equipment

With the Euro Cup recently ending and Olympic fever sweeping the globe, teams and athletes everywhere are now household names and have graced the covers of thousands of newspapers. So, in a season so dominated by international play, what better time would it be to expand a sporting goods store?

Opening its third location on July 7 in downtown Westfield, arrived at the perfect time to capitalize on an expanded American interest in soccer. Although the store sells equipment for dozens of sports such as baseball, lacrosse, track & field, swimming and basketball, yet its finest collection of apparel comes from its soccer section.

Thanks to a licensing agreement with FIFA, the store is authorized to sell club and national team jerseys for the top teams in Europe and South America. On display include the "Três Grandes" Portuguese football clubs—SL Benfica, Sporting CP, and F.C. Porto—and United States national team jerseys.

“It can be difficult to purchase European jerseys here in the U.S.,” said store co-owner Paul Silva. “At times, the prices can exceed well over $100. At Pegasus Sporting Goods, prices are affordable and well under the average rates.”

And that seems to be the message owners Paul and Daniela Silva are trying to get across to customers—quality products at affordable prices. That message has been boosting the store's popularity since its opening day.

“Business started off slow, just as any business does,” said store clerk Eric Oliveira. “Yet over the past few weeks, we have seen a rise in popularity, especially with the soccer season approaching next month.”

The proud members of soccer nation now have a place to call home, and show off their favorite team’s jerseys all over town.

Pegasus will be open Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
