Y Swimmers Compete Against Montclair

Comes up short as Westfield swimmers win individual honors.

On Nov. 21 the Westfield YMCA Girls A swim team traveled to Montclair to compete against that Y’s A swim team. The girls fought a good battle, but came up short with a score of 96 to Montclair’s 112. Despite the loss the following swimmers put in very strong performances for Westfield.

8 and under – Amanda Pyle swam to 2 first place finishes in the 25 breast and 25 back, while Jenna Daniel won the 50 free and 25 fly. Jillian Hitzel swam to 2nd place finishes in the 50 free and 25 back, as did Megan Cassiba in the 25 fly. The 100 medley relay of Hitzel, Daniel, Pyle and Cassiba finished first.

9 & 10 – Shannon Pyle placed first in the 100 free and 50 fly. Emily Oster finished first in the 100 IM and 3rd in the 50 back. Mackenzie Smith touched first in the 50 breast. Second place finishes were recorded by Muriel Maloney in the 50 back, Amy Liang in the 50 breast, and Danielle Rubiano in the 100 IM. Devyn Tibbals finished third in the 50 fly.

11 – 12 – Second place finishes were recorded by Courtney Day in the 100 free and Caroline Basil in the 200IM and 50 fly. Third places were secured by Meredith Bagger in the 100 free, Elise Morano in the 50 breast and Katherine Duffy in the 50 back.

13 – 14 – Erika Daniel placed first in the 100 fly. Audrey Bangs finished second in the 100 back and 3rd in the 200 free. Second place finishes were also recorded by Becky Zhang in the 100 breast and Caitlin Carrol in the 100 fly. The 200 medley relay of Bangs, Zhang, Daniel and Carrol finished first.

15 – 18 – Suzanne Lemberg placed first in the 200 free. Abby Pires finished first in the 100 breast. Meredith Smith finished second in the 200 fly. Summer Thomas touched third in the 200 IM. The 200 medley relay of Smith, Pires, Lemberg and Meg Kaveney toughed first.
