WHS Wrestling Team Looks to Continue Stellar Season at District Tournament

Team is 19-2 for the season.

Westfield High School wrestling coach Glen Kurz is optimistic going into this weekend's District 11 tournament.

"This is the best team I've put on a mat since I've been here," said Kurz, who has served as WHS's wrestling coach for 15 years.

The two-day tournament, hosted by WHS, begins at 6:30 p.m. this evening. Semi-finals begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, consolation matches start at 1:30 p.m., with finals beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Kurz said he expects eight to 10 grapplers to move on to compete in the regional tournament.

"Anyone who places in the top three in his weight class advances to the regions in Union next Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday," the coach noted. "Again, the top three in the regions move onto the states in Atlantic City. I do expect that we will have a few individuals making it. We've had an outstanding season, finishing 19-2 and tied for first in our conference."
