Westfield Women’s Double Headed to Nationals

Westfield Crew will travel to Long Island, NY next weekend to participate in the Long Island Junior Rowing Championships in Oyster Bay.

Westfield Crew saw some action this weekend, traveling to Camden, NJ to race on Cooper River for the Garden State Scholastic Championships. Westfield benefited from the beautiful weather, rowing in 11 races.

Starting off the day were Jordan Hindes and Tristan Orr, placing 4th in their Men’s Junior double heat.

Following the double was the Men’s Freshman quad manned by Blake Fallon, Jasper Baur, William Harmer and Kevin Law, who placed 6th in their race.

Ben Howell, Alex Zornitsky, Alex Schneider and Chip Pipala came in 7th by less than a second in the Men’s Junior quad event.

Placing first in their heat by more than 10 seconds and advancing to Nationals were Sarah Sarkos and Emily McLane, rowing in the Women’s Varsity double event. This is the first boat to head to Nationals this season, and the girls and the entire team were overjoyed with their success.

Following them in the Women’s Varsity Lightweight double were Katie Eliades and Charlotte Dreizen, placing 3rd in their race.

In the Men’s Novice quad were Christian Rosa, Tom Gerris, Michael Murray and Isaac Amador, placing 5th in their event.

Julia Simpson, Danielle Gabuzda, Izzy D’Olier-Lees and Abbey Wilson rowed the Women’s Freshman quad, placing 3rd in their event.

Coming in 5th were Melanie Snyder, Amanda Christian, Ann-Sophie Koglin and Julia Abbattista, rowing in the Women’s Junior quad heat.

Rowing in the Women’s Varsity quad were Sandy Choi, Jenny Amador, Marissa Jennings and Sara Hoerrner, placing 4th in their event.

Coming in a close 2nd in the Men’s Varsity quad event were Drew Mellusi, Matt Lazzarotti, Mike Paone and David Adsit.

Rounding out the day were Emily Simpson, Helen Keating, Alex Colluci and Logan Schwartz, placing 3rd in the Women’s Junior Lightweight quad event.
