Westfield Lacrosse Players Sign National Letters of Intent

Each player verbally committed to a college during their junior year, and three recently signed their national letters of intent (NLI) on November 14.

For the first time in history, four women lacrosse players from Westfield have committed to play Division 1 college lacrosse.  All four players competed together on the Blue Devils Lacrosse Club during middle school, received training from the Westfield Lacrosse Club, and have played the past few years on their high school and travel club teams. Each player verbally committed to a college during their junior year, and three recently signed their national letters of intent (NLI) on November 14.

Mariah Baker is a versatile midfielder who plays for Westfield High School and Metro Lacrosse Club. Mariah also runs cross country and winter track for Westfield when not playing lacrosse. At Metro, she was one of five club members recognized for her leadership on and off the field with a Metro Foundation Scholarship in 2013, and signed a NLI to continue her lacrosse career at the University of Cincinnati, competing in the Big East Conference.  Cincinnati has an up and coming lacrosse program and has a new coach, Gina Oliver, who is looking to take the Bearcats to the next level. Mariah plans to study Graphic Design Communications in the world renowned College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning, which along with the lacrosse program and the picture perfect campus made selecting Cincinnati easy.

Elizabeth Cusick plays lacrosse for Westfield High School and Metro Lacrosse Club, and is also a 2011 and 2012 first team All Union County doubles tennis player. While playing lacrosse at Westfield she has 234 career points (186g, 48a) and is a 2011 and 2012 first team All Union County selection and 2012 US Lacrosse Academic All American. She played for Metro for seven years, and was recently awarded a Metro Foundation Scholarship to recognize her leadership. Elizabeth was selected to the 2011 US Lacrosse Northern NJ Schoolgirls team and the 2011 and 2012 Under Armour New Jersey teams.  She was chosen to the Under Armour All-Tournament team in 2012 and is listed in Inside Lacrosse Magazine's Class of 2013 top 40 players in the country. Elizabeth signed her NLI to play for Coach Amy Bokker at Stanford University, a team that was nationally ranked 7th in the country in 2011, her major is undecided.

Lauren Oberlander plays lacrosse, tennis and basketball at Kent Place School in Summit, NJ.  She is a two-time first team All County tennis player, and was first team all-state by position at second doubles as a freshman. Lauren is a point guard and tenacious defender in basketball and helped Kent Place win their conference for the first time as a sophomore. Lauren is a dynamic midfielder on the lacrosse field. While playing at Kent Place, she has 142 career points (106g, 36a) and helped her team to the State Sectional Finals in 2011. Lauren played club lacrosse for seven years for Metro Lacrosse Club, and was selected to play on US Lacrosse Northern NJ Schoolgirls teams in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  She was also selected to the 2011 Under Armour New Jersey team and the 2012 US Lacrosse Academic All America team. Lauren signed her NLI to continue her lacrosse career at the University of Michigan under Coach Jenny Ulehla on Team One of the new women's lacrosse program, scheduled to begin Division 1 competition in 2014. Lauren's major will be Business Administration.

Courtney Weisse is a high powered attack player for Westfield High School and STEPS Elite Lacrosse Club. She is also was captain and a stand out middle for Westfield's Volleyball Team. Courtney has 232 career points for Westfield (153 g, 79 a) and is a 2011 and 2012 first team All-County player as well as a first team All Stars and Stripes League player in 2012. Courtney also holds the Westfield season record for assists, set her Freshman Year. Courtney was selected to the 2011 and 2012 US Lacrosse Northern NJ Schoolgirls and 2012 Under Armour New Jersey team and was listed in Inside Lacrosse Magazine's Class of 2013 top 40 players in the country. Courtney is committed to play lacrosse for Coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth College, a team that was nationally ranked #12 in 2011 and #10 in 2012. Courtney's major is undecided.
