Westfield Defense Stifles New Providence En Route to 13-1 Thrashing
Westfield beat New Providence on Tuesday 13-1 to improve to 4-4.
The Westfield Varsity lacrosse team pummeled New Providence on Monday with suffocating defense that lead to a 13-1 victory. Westfield was relentless on offense and defense as they climbed back up to a .500 record.
The Westfield Defense held New Providence scoreless until the fourth quarter. Starting goalie Jeff Laforge had been pulled at that point and New Providence's only goal was scored on backup goalie, Alex McHugh. Westfield's defense was lead by Christian Burgdorf who played an imposing game and had several key takeaways.
The game started off quickly as Westfield scored their first goal in the opening minutes of the game. Westfield then did a stellar job holding possesion on offense which lead to LaForge giving up 0 goals on only 3 saves.

Westfield jumped to a 4-0 lead just before halftime on a goal from Attackman Nick Arnold.
In the second half, Westfield again came out firing, scoring just as the quarter opened to make the game 5-0. Westfield was lead by Jackson O'Leary who netted 4 goals and had 2 assists and Nick Arnold who had 2 goals.

Westfield was able to dictate the pace of the game by maintaining possesion and doing a spectacular job on faceoffs. Winning a vast majority of faceoffs and using that advantage to dominate possesion.
Westfield faces Madison (1-5) on Wednesday at Kehler Stadium. The game will start at 4pm.
