Westfield Crew Earns 18 Medals at North Jersey Championships

Next Saturday, Westfield Crew returns to Leonia, NJ for more breathtaking competition.

Westfield Crew saw a lot of action this weekend, participating in back-to-back regattas on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s competition was the North Jersey Championships at Overpeck Park in Leonia and Sunday found the team rowing on the Schuylkill River at the Manny Flick #4 Regatta in Philadelphia.

Westfield Crew hauled in an impressive eighteen medals on Saturday. Westfield’s closest race was between our own Women’s JV Quads. 

Emily Simpson, Amanda Christian, Katie Eliades and Logan Schwartz narrowly won gold by less than a second over Julia Abbattista, Ann-Sophie Koglin, Melanie Snyder and Helen Keating, who pulled hard for silver.

All participating in their first race, Julia Simpson, Danielle Gabuzda, Izzy D'Olier-Lees and Abbey Wilson gave an impressive performance and finished first in the Women’s Novice Quad event.

The Men’s Novice Double rowed by Tristan Orr and Jordan Hindes gave another strong showing by taking gold in their category.

Rounding out the day were Mike Paone, Matt Lazzarotti, Drew Mellusi and David Adsit in the Men’s Varsity Quad also grabbing gold.

On Sunday, Westfield’s first race was the Women’s Novice Quad.  Abbey Wilson, Izzy D’Olier-Lees, Danielle Gabuzda and Amanda Christian pulled hard for a third place finish in their flight.

The Women’s JV Quad, rowed by Logan Schwartz, Melanie Snyder, Julia Abbattista and Ann-Sophie Koglin placed fourth in their race.

The Women’s Lightweight Double category was dominated by Westfield with Charlotte Dreizen and Katie Eliades taking first and Sarah Sarkos and Emily McLane placing fifth in their heats.

Women’s Varsity Quad, consisting of Sara Hoerrner, Sandy Choi, Jenny Amador and Marissa Jennings gave it their all for a fourth place finish in their flight.

Jordan Hindes and Tristan Orr rowed in the Men’s Novice Double event and placed fourth overall with an inspiring effort.

The Men’s JV Quad powered by Ben Howell, Alex Zornitsky, Alex Schneider and Chip Pipala turned in their best time of the season and finished fourth in their race.
