Running Schedule Packed in Coming Weeks

The summer racing schedule is kicking into full steam in the next few weeks with some local road races that will attract many local runners. You need not be a speed demon to participate in these events, most of which cater to the young and old, fast and slow, walkers or runners. Some even provide more than just running.

For instance, this upcoming Monday night, Millburn, New Jersey, will host their annual President’s Cup 5k which sees 2000 runners/walkers toe the line to get to the beer truck first. That’s right, this race has Sam Adams for anyone legal to drink after the race in Charlie Brown’s parking lot.

While most races won’t have a beer truck following the race, many are for great causes. On Father’s Day this year at the newly designated Oak Ridge Park in Clark (formerly Oak Ridge Golf Course), The Center for Hope & Hospice will host a 5k Run/Walk on the cart paths in the park to benefit the center. It should be a great event for years to come. 

Then there is the Firecracker 4 Miler in Cranford and Westfield’s Downtown Pizza Extravaganza 5k in July.  Both runs get great turnouts and have runners, walkers and a real town presence. So lace up the shoes and get ready for one of these runs.
