PAL White B Teams Beats Marlboro

A look at PAL football action from Oct. 24.

Wearing #52 on their helmets in support of Rutger's football player Eric LeGrand, the White "B" team shut down Marlboro 26-0 in a road game on Oct. 24.  Game Captains this week were Owen Colwell, Parker Hess, JD Marner and Hopper Murray.

Westfield got on the board quickly after Hess, Murray and Vin DiFilippo forced a failed punt by Marlboro.  Carries by Jack Curry and DiFilippo got the ball inside the red zone and Curry took the ball 15 yards for a touchdown and also scored the Point After Touchdown (PAT.)   Chris Boutsikaris intercepted a Marlboro bill and ran it 47 yards to the six yard line.  Curry and DiFilippo combined again to tack on another six points for the Blue Devils.  A big hit by Brendan Collum on a fourth down forced a quick turn over on downs.  Assisted by a crushing block by DiFilippo, Chris Varano gained 30 yards to set up a touchdown pass by Boutsikaris to Murray.  A PAT pass to Varano brought the score to 20-0.

Westfield defense stifled the Marlboro offense again when Tim Norris forced a mid-field fumble which was scooped up by Ben Meltzer.  Ryan Bass took the ball for short gains and then Westfield scored on a post and lateral with Boutsikaris handing the ball to Varano who passed to DiFilippo.  Westfield led 26-0 going into the half.

In the second half of the game, running back Ryan Bass got the ball for several strong offensive series as did James Hoodja while the Blue Devil defense dominated Marlboro.  Justin Dudzinski recorded a quarterback sack, while Jack Cash made some key tackles.  Marner intercepted a pass, and in the following Marlboro offensive series, Varano also snagged an interception.

In the previous week, a strong defensive outing by the team helped drive the Blue Devils to a 16-0 victory over the Springfield Minutemen at Kehler Stadium.  Game captains were Liam Heinbokel, Parker Hess and JD Marner.
