Little Devils Win Winter Indoor Lacrosse League Crown

Westfield girls win lacrosse glory.

A team of middle school girls from Westfield won the 8th grade Winter Indoor League Championship at the Indoor Sports Pavillion. 

The team compiled a perfect 10-0 record this season defeating teams from Summit, Chatham, Ridgewood, West Essex, and  Oak Knoll to win the ISP Indoor Lacrosse Championship. The team was made up of 13 eighth graders, six seventh graders and four brave six graders who all play for the Westfield Lacrosse Club in the spring.  

The Little Devils had a powerful attack led by Natalie Brennan,  Helen Keating, Olivia Dembiec and Alyssa Teese with support from Shelby Taylor, Emily Shields and Hallie Rosenburgh.

The powerful Little Devil midfield was lead by Alexis Kardias, Mary Randazzo, Jessica Castelo, Caroline Baldwin, Anna Tanji, Samantha Paoletti, Jill Burke, Caroline Meyo and Jordan Robertson.   Defensively, the Little Devils were lead by Mallory Weisse in goal and assisted by the stingy defense of Rebecca Kraus, Kaitlyn Lutz, Lauren D'Amico, Natasha Peregrim, Sarah Cronin and Julia Gretsky.

The Little Devils were faced by challenges in the playoffs from Summit, West Essex and a powerful Acorn team from the Oak Knoll School in the finals.  The Acorns jumped out to an early lead on the strength of their new offensive set and incredible fast break offense. The Little Devils trailed at the half but regrouped to tie the score and send the game into overtime. In overtime Alexis Kardias found Jessica Castelo on the wing who quickly fed Samantha Paoletti in the middle for the winning score.
