Lacrosse Teams Win in Charity Game

Games benefit cancer charity.

The Westfield Lacrosse Varisty team (7-7) beat Toms River (4-6) on Saturday afternoon at Kehler stadium. The game was part of the "Score for a Cure Charity Lacrosse Day" for both the Boys and Girls Varisty Lacrosse teams.

The event is being held to raise money that will go to the Hesstrong Cancer Foundation. The goal of the foundation is to raise money in order to work towards finding a cure to all blood cancers.

Westfield Senior Katherine Frega was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma stage IIB on May 17th, 2011. After bravely fighting through chemptherapy Frega was able to return to the field for some of her senior lacrosse season, she played in her last game April 15th before undergoing another surgery.

Frega was quoted as saying "My dream for the future is to become healthy again, and become an advocate for cancer and a doctor,so that I can help sick children who are in the place that I once was."

It is because of her bravery throughout her sturggle that the lacrosse program chose to honor her with this fundraising event.
