First Female Athletics Supervisor, New McKinley Principal to be Named Tuesday

Mamary and Bolton to take administrative posts.

The Board of Education is set to name a district administrator as the new McKinley School principal and the town's first female athletics supervisor during a meeting Tuesday.

Sources have confirmed that Sandy Mamary, a trainer at Westfield High School, is expected to be named the new athletics supervisor, and Matthew Bolton, the assistant principal of Roosevelt Intermediate School, is expected be named the new principal of McKinley School. Both have been considered frontrunners for the posts.

Mamary, a long time trainer at the high school, will be the first female athletics supervisor in Westfield history. Well respected by coaches and students, Mamary will be succeeding long time athletic director Ed Tranchina, who is retiring.

"She's well liked by the entire Westfield community," a Westfield coach said of the appointment.

Mamary will be joining the growing ranks of female athletic directors around New Jersey. In Union County, Theresa Kostes is the athletic director at Hillside High School. Within Westfield, Mamary will be taking a position that has seen little turnover in several decades with Tranchina and his predecessor, Gary Kehler, holding the job for years.

The position has been renamed and reconfigured after Tranchina's retirement, including having physical education teachers reporting to the supervisor. The move was made to be in line with other districts statewide.

Bolton comes to the McKinley post after pulling double duty for the past several months. In addition to his duties at Roosevelt, he has been serving as the interim principal of Lincoln School, while principal Audrey Zavetz has been on medical leave. A graduate of the Bank Street College of Education, Bolton is known for his data and academic driven studies of new curriculum proposals.

Bolton has served as Roosevelt's assistant principal since 2007. The BOE is now expected to launch a search to fill this position.

Bolton succeeds longtime principal Claudia Andreski, who is retiring after a 31 year career in the Westfield schools, including eight years at the helm of McKinley.

The two are being appointed after an agressive search process, conducted over a six week period. Over 90 people applied for the McKinley post and 60 applied for the athletics job.
