Westfield Area Y Hosts Special Senior Day

The Westfield Area Y will host a Senior Day on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.  The day will consist of several special events taking place at the Y for adults over the age of 55 to celebrate seniors and wellness.  This event is FREE and open to members and non-members.   A cooking demo and lecture called “Food and Mood,” will be given by Chef Jesse Kraft, Executive Chef of a high end catering facility and at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.  Mr. Kraft will be accompanied by Deanna Schweighardt, RD, who is the Outpatient Nutritionist at St. Barnabas for many years.  Mr. Kraft and Ms. Schweighardt will share their knowledge of how different foods can affect your moods, and samples will be available.  The demo/lecture will start promptly at 12:30 p.m.  Immediately following the demo/lecture there will be a schedule of special fitness classes on land and in the pool and a guided walk in Westfield, depending on the weather.  Classes to be offered are: Zumba Gold, Walk in Westfield, Aqua Zumba, TRX Stretch & Strength, Gentle Yoga and Ai Chi.

Please see the Westfield Area Y website at www.westfieldynj.org for the specific class times.   Additionally, the facility will be open to the public all day for regular classes offered that day, including Senior Exercise, Arthritis Classes on land and in the pool.  Please see the website for more information about these classes.   Membership specials on the day of the event include waiving the Joiners Fee ($150 savings) and the opportunity for an existing member who brings a new member to the Westfield Area Y to receive a plush, Y beach towel! There will be some additional giveaways.
