Wilson School Celebrates Anniversary with Reunion

Black chalkboards, squeaky desks and slick, square-shaped tile floors – some of the memories people may have from their days in elementary school. It's rare that anyone gets the chance to relive those days.

But those who graduated from Wilson School will get the chance tonight.

As part of the celebration of the school's 75th anniversary, the school is hosting a reunion in the school's gym.

"I thought what a nice way to commemorate those who made Wilson School's history," said Susana MacLean, the event's organizer and co-president of the school's Parent-Teacher Organization.

MacLean said about 12 faculty and staff members will be attending the event, as well as three dozen former students, most who graduated in the 1970s and '80s.

MacLean said at first they were going to hold the event in the library but the response was so great they decided to upgrade to the gym's larger space. A Facebook page has been designed to help generate excitement about the event. Alumni have been invited to share pictures and stories on the group's wall.

The night will feature light refreshments, a speech by the school's principal and a slide show of old photographs. MacLean said attendees will also get to wander the school and reminisce. She said alumni may be surprised to see the new wing for 1st and 2nd grade students, as well as the new library. Of course, one of the main goals of the evening, MacLean said, is to have alumni reunite.

"I hope that the faculty, staff and students enjoy seeing the building but also hope they enjoy reconnecting with each other," MacLean said.

This is the first time the school has hosted a reunion event.
