WHS Students Amazed by the Cold During Cryogenics Demo

Demonstration was conducted by engineers from Linde's North American headquarters in Murray Hill.

Westfield High School recently hosted a demonstration of cutting-edge cryogenics -- the science and study of extremely low temperatures -- conducted by engineers from Linde’s North American headquarters in Murray Hill.

The presentation, which also included a question-and-answer session, was part of Linde's ongoing community outreach campaign. The Linde program focuses on supporting science education in local areas where the company maintains offices or other facilities.

"The engineers who presented to our classes on our first STEM Day were young and enthusiastic and connected with our students,” says David N. Stoneback, the supervisor of the science department at Westfield High School. “The various demos for LN2 engaged student interest and sparked discussions and questions for days after the demonstration. Kudos to the presenters, and thanks to Linde for making the visit to our classrooms a possibility."

Mike Staub, one of the Linde engineers who took part in the demonstration says: “Visiting high schools and creating fun ways for students to explore science is extremely rewarding. We really focused on presenting the aspects of engineering that touch their everyday lives and we hope that we were able to provide a vision for their careers.”

Another Linde engineer, Sara Goska, who also took part in the demo, added: “The more than 200 students from Westfield High school were fully engaged in the cryogenics demonstration. It’s terrific to be able to give students the chance to do something that they are normally not able to do in the classroom.”
